Tomas Koeck

Filmmaker, Photographer, Conservationist

I was so fortunate to grow up in an area that yielded so many nature trails managed by the Connecticut Audubon Society, a fortune that greatly helped cultivate my passion for the environment. I spent my first two years of college at the very prestigious Pennsylvania State University dendrology program, working on invasive plant regeneration as well as field work with Dr. Kim Steiner of Penn State’s dendrology forest biology division. While it was an amazing program I found this work to not be personally fulfilling. I picked up my first camera in 2017, and since then I have not been able to put it down. To me, my camera and everything else that helps me produce my work serves as an extension of my own mind and a way to give a voice to those who don't have one.

Currently, I am studying for my bachelor’s degree in Communication Studies from the School of Communication, Media & the Arts at Sacred Heart University. I have worked on several stories with the non-profit Vision Project and am on the Easton Courier’s news team. I have been published in the Connecticut Audubon Society, Tamron optics, espn, Connecticut Post the easton courier, the pulse, the spectrum and many other outlets. I also maintain collaborations with the National Audubon Society, the Loon Preservation Committee, the Boreal Conservation Committee and I have sponsorships with TAMRON Optics USA, Canon USA, Milford Photo, and the Undergraduate Research Institute. I am also endorsed by the Connecticut Audubon as an ethical wildlife photographer.

I strive to be involved with the national communications field and am a proud inductee of the Lambda Pi Eta National Communication Association Honors Society. I am also proud to have earned several notable honors such as the University of Connecticut: Award for Environmental Issues for my work in environmental conservation. I have also received honors for my documentary work and photography such as the Sacred Heart MAX Presentation Award and a second place finish and honorable mention at the 2020 Connecticut "Birdathon".
